Abstract: A direct structural and functional association between organized, living bone and the surface of the loadbearing implant is referred to as osseointegration. An implant is considered as osseointegrated when there is no incremental relative movement between the implant and the bone with which it has direct contact. The aim of this review is to assess the basic science work done on the concept of osseointegration biology, and to discuss the factors that may affect osseous healing around an implant
